Are you interested in studying or working abroad? Great! The Erasmus+ programme offers a lot of opportunities in the European region to broaden your horizon, create new friendships, raise qualifications and improve the prospects of all participants to better succeed in life. On this page, we provide some basic information along with useful links about the programme and how you can participate
The Erasmus+ programme (European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) was originally founded in 1987 by the European Union and enables students to study and work abroad. During each of your study cycles (Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Candidate) you can participate in one mobility programme with a maximum duration of up to 12 months.
These mobilities are not limited to study programmes: Erasmus+ also covers traineeships and opportunities for post graduates. Every member of a registered Erasmus+ higher education institution (HEI) can participate, a full list of HEIs can be found here.
Some facts 💡
- The programme is funded by the EU with €14.7 billion for 2014-2020. This budget was increased to €26.2 billion for the period of 2021-2027
- Mobility is offered to more than 4 million people, with 50% among them being students
- More than 125,000 Education Institutions, schools, youth organisations and enterprises are participating
Studying abroad 💻
When going on an Erasmus+ mobility abroad, you have the right to receive full recognition of your completed courses at your home university. This is ensured by your Learning Agreement which is signed by your home university and your receiving university prior to your mobility. Check the websites of your home university to get more information! If you want to read what other students have to say about their stay abroad, have a look at our own experienes or check your HEI’s International Office for existing reviews.
Working abroad 💼
With Erasmus+ you can even find traineeships (work placements, internships etc.) abroad. These mobilities last between 2 and 12 months and are offered to each member of a registered Erasmus+ higher institution. More detailed information about your opportunities is provided on this page.
Financial support 💰
Every participant of an Erasmus+ programme receives the Erasmus+ grant to financially support their stay. The funding amount depends on the individual mobility programme and the receiving country. Additionally, the granted rates are also dependent on your home HEI, so make sure to check their websites.
Moreover, make sure to keep your eyes open for additional scholarships that are not linked to the Erasmus+ programme 👍
